Hipster Humpday 5: The Music Alliance Pact

So about a week or two ago I did something that really stretched my musical tastes I stumbled onto the February Music Alliance Pact article on The Guardian's website. Now don't get me wrong I've been listening to music from all over the world for longer than I should admit but ever only a couple artists, a couple genres, nothing like this. I guess I lived in ignorance of the fact that all the changes in musical taste and style were happening all over the world. The Music Alliance Pact really opened my eyes a little bit more to the vast array of gems hidden all over the world, and made finding them a whole lot easier.

So MAP is made up of 34 blogs around the world basically doing their best to connect us all in the universal language, music. I'm actually a little embarrassed I didn't know about this earlier, and I cannot endorse this more, to be a part of something that literally connects the world is amazing, and even though our blog here is minuscule I still manage to get most of my views from beyond North America, its an awesome feeling. Before we go too far here I'd like to hit you with the link to the zip file containing 36 tracks from aspiring artists all over the globe. Getting back into it here, I'm not entirely sure how long this has been going on but it looks like a monthly affair and I think I would like to do a little more research and maybe do a little update post every month even if its just to keep myself in the loop. Now I really don't want to take traffic away from the actual members of this group so I won't link any of the artists here but the original article is here, so if you would like to preview any of the tracks, or hear a little about the artist please visit it, I would also recommend clicking on the artist link next to each track, from what I've seen they're usually links to more of the artists work. So I'll put a couple videos up below for a preview, please take a minute or too to expand your horizons and really there's something here for everyone, every genre is explored and every track excels in its own arena, so give it a go, tell them I sent you.

As you can hear these two tracks are in english from Norway and Canada respectively, not only could I not find videos for some of the other tracks I wanted to link blogger's Youtube search decided to crap out so I had to embed the files, which is why they are off to the left hand side, my fault completely. So please take the time to download the zip and feel free to visit us on Facebook here.

  1. Nice article, thanks for your lovely words about the project! I started up the Music Alliance Pact in October 2008 and have organised and edited it ever since. I also pick the Scottish acts through my own blog The Pop Cop (http://thepopcop.co.uk) - there's an archive of all the past months on the site.
