James Doesn't Exist - Uncanned (Grindcore/Noise)

Lets get right to it shall we? After what seems like an eternity I've decided you folks don't receive enough punishment, or at least your ears don't. So for my return post I've got something that neither of us know fuck all about, lets call it a learning experience.

James Doesn't Exist, are a (now) five piece, well lets call them an experimental metal bad, from Highland Park, Illinois. I would love to be able to claim finding them for myself but all that blame can be placed squarely on the only person to use our Facebook page since I did many moons ago. There now my ass is covered and we can get onto the actual music here.

Uncanned is their tenth release, put out on their one year anniversary, cute isn't it? All told the eight tracks might add up to maybe ten minutes, which is really all the casual listener could handle, but if you're  slightly deaf and really quite twisted you'll get your jollies a plenty. Amusing quote samples, heavier than your mom in a hummer riffs, and drum patterns that will surely scrape your inner ear for you, Uncanned is the perfect introduction to all JDE has to offer. I count thirteen projects on their Bandcamp, all free, so before I get negative contemplate whether you need to have your family/neighbors/everyone looking at you like you crawled out of some dark hole in the ground and grab them up.

Don't get me wrong I'm just the kind of fucked up it takes to appreciate this but taking an unbiased view here everything JDE has is designed for a niche market, and my only problem other than that is how short the tracks are. Maybe its a good thing, maybe too much would melt your brain, but it can come off as not knowing how to make a full length track, its like every file is an idea, and somewhere after the first minute something clicked off. Uncanned is an eight track, maybe ten minute release and its not the shortest, Meatheads has 25 tracks almost all of them under five seconds. That's just me being nit picky and really its because I want more that I offer this constructive criticism.

Also before I get lazy again thanks to AJT for sending over his remix of their track Crunk Juice, check it out here, and expect more posts about JDE in the future. If you liked my little disjointed post here please consider heading over to FB and letting me know, cause really I would like to get back into a regular schedule but I need a little encouragement.

Kraddy - Anthems Of The Hero (Rock/Bass/Electronic)

Today just happens to be a record breaking day, most pageviews in a day and most posts in a day, tomorrow is our one year and I'm hoping for 14, 000 views by then, which  shouldn't be a problem, you'll understand when you hear this next album.

Kraddy, bass music pioneer, has been spinning since the Glitch Mob was just an idea and my ears had never bled from dubstep, that's a long time ago. So to celebrate this legend lets show you his free album Anthems of the Hero. AOTH is a rock influenced electronic masterpiece, really, most metal doesn't come close to being this metal, and at eleven songs in length, each one pushing five minutes, this will keep you on your toes and running fast for a serious long time. As you know our generation really hates having to spend money on something we can pirate, and any established producer that has the heart to offer tracks like these for free is alright in my books. So seriously take a peek then download this beast, and tell your friends, spread it like the plague.

Make Them Suffer - Lord of Woe EP and Neverbloom Single (Deathcore)

Australia is apparently way more badass than we give them credit for, shown quite obviously by symphonic death metal giants Make Them Suffer. The story about how I happened to first heard them is too long to bother writing and really, isn't entertaining at all. What is entertaining is the classification of symphonic death metal, think of it as death metal with a piano, cause really that's all that  it is, but by thor is it amazing. Seriously though this isn't for the faint of heart if you don't enjoy metal then sure give it a try, but you're a lost cause. For those of us with frequently bleeding ears this is a treat, and free, but hey I don't think it was intended to be so get it while you can.

Hardcore Humpday 14: Memphis May Fire and Outline In Color

To start today isn't actually Wednesday, its Sunday, I'm doing laundry and feeling sorry for myself, and for the first time in months I found something I think I might actually be able to write about.

Memphis May Fire, are a five piece post hardcore band from Dallas, Texas, and my god are they good. Admittedly my punk phase is long gone but today I really feel a connection with the hard hitting guitar riffs, pounding drum patterns vocals ripped from the throat of fallen angels. Don't ask what sparked it because that's too long of a story to include, short version is girl troubles. That being said MMF's 2011 album The Hollow is a work of fucking art, equal parts head splitting screamo angst that resounds around your heard and mind urging you to hate and soft emotion laden instrumental, almost electronic/post rock interludes. There really is an emotional part to this album, what first attracted me to it was my interpretation of the first few tracks as love songs, albeit love songs wrenched from deep within a tortured soul just past a bleeding heart. Its almost like the artists and I sat down and had a poetry session to script the past. The only problem with todays artists are the lack of reliable download links, so here is a link to the torrent I unfortunately had to use, or you could go on over to pop-to-core and bitch at them until they fix the Mediafire link. Either way this album is amazing and the quick fix to not being able to download it reliably is to go buy it!

Outline In Color, are a seven piece post hardcore outfit from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and they are responsible for my recent screamo splurge. I heard their track, My Other Car Is A Time Machine, in a montage that was for one reason or another inboxed to me on Youtube. That prompted me to listen to their debut self titled album for way longer than the songs lasted and then came the inevitable search around the internet for a reliable link, and (see the pattern here?) again I came up with a Torrent, that's it. But amazingly enough the torrent took maybe ten minutes and I was jamming away. For a debut album Outline In Color is amazingly thick and well produced, the tunes are driving and soul tearing, every section is played to the limit and past to create a package you'd be straight stupid to pass up. So grab that torrent above as a preview and go buy the album!

Hope you enjoyed today's post, apologies for the influx of torrents but blame the internet for being so full of holes. Please head on over to our Facebook page and give us a like, also apologies if the posts earlier this week were crap but don't blame me I haven't written them yet.

Metalstep Monday 4: Korn: The Path Of Totality

You may have heard of Korn, the giants of metal they are, still kicking after eighteen years of rocking my ears off. Well way back when, April 14, 2011, to be exact I heard the first single off their newest album and it moved me to a point where I just had to start a blog to write about it and spread the word to as many people as I could. I'm proud to say that nearly ten months and 10, 000 pageviews later I'm ready to put forth the complete album in all  its glory.

So I was cruising Spin magazines website the other day and happened across the supposed "best metal albums" of 2011, to my delight not only was the new Mastodon album on it so was The Path of Totality, which believe it or not I had almost given up on seeing, last I checked it was delayed or maybe my local HMV was yanking my chain. Either way its out now and absolutely fucking amazing. First off lets say I attained my copy through less than legal sources but I plan on buying a physical copy at my earliest convenience, but if you can't wait grab it here on itunes or here if you don't give a fuck (just in general).

So if you happen to not be amazing then you don't have a clue whats so damn awesome about this album, well lets just say of the thirteen tracks in that .zip file none of them are unblemished by top notch dubstep. Yeah the boys shook the can and teamed up with nine different dubstep figureheads and created a masterpiece of epic proportions. Yeah you heard me right, nine, count 'em, Skrillex, Feed Me, Excision, Datsik, Downlink, Noisia, 12th Planet, Flinch, and Kill The Noise. Until you hear it you'll just have to take my word that every single track is pure gold and this album dserves more press than it has so far recieved. That being said if you're a hardcore Korn fan and have followed them from day one you might need to pull that stick out of your ass to appreciate the lengths this album pushes the limit and the industry. All in all The Path of Totality is the underdog but its day will come... its day will come.

Hardcore Humpday 12 : Dreamshade and Beheading Machine

Melodic death metal, not your everyday topic starter, but damn its amazing. Apparently Dreamshade are actually the first band from Switzerland to take a chance with this genre and actually get it right.

This is some of the most melodic and emotive music to ever grace my ears and yes I realize how crazy that sounds. With expert vocals changing from growling to screaming at a moments notice, extremely complicated drum patterns and guitar solo's, What Silence Hides is an album to be feared and respected and an amazing start from this relatively young band.

You may remember last Monday I briefly mentioned Beheading Machine, a mechanical deathmetal band from Poland. Having only started playing in 2008 the band has come a long way. This is definitely the other end of the deathmetal spectrum with insanely heavy riffs and blastbeats over growling vocal line, this is no pussy metal. Alas the only sad part is that this band is unsigned, so help out in anyway you can.

BEHEADING MACHINE - THE PSALM OF TRIPPING GOD [PROMO UPGRADE 2011] by SUBSTEP INFRABASS

Well thats all I have to say for today, its my day off so I think I'll just waste a few hours playing Dead Island and writing some rough drafts of a couple reviews I have planned for my other page. If you are part of a band or are looking for a band and are from Ontario, Canada check out my buddies Facebook page here and stay update with our page here.

Hardcore Humpday 11 : Martyr Defiled and Three Crowns

For our 91st post I thought we would attempt to go back to the origins of the Wednesday post, today we take it up a notch, prepare the neck braces.

Enter Martyr Defiled, a five man progressive deathcore band from Lincoln, UK. You can put the word "core" after anything truthfully, but to label this as death metal would be going soft on you.

First off thanks to Grindcore Brutal Death for having more metal than I could even think of downloading and providing the link to this amazing five track album. So if you are anywhere where there are people with sensitive ears turn down the volume, unless your like me, then crank that shit! This is most assuredly the type of music that will get you kicked out of your parents house, driving guitars, complicated drum patterns and vocals so thick you'll have to scrape the lyrics out of your ears after. So if you have a soft spot for metal or iron ears you'll love this album.

Continuing the crunchy theme today is Kitchener's own Three Crowns. This amazingly Canadian band just released their Debut EP, and it features some big names, like Ben Waugh of Exalt, and Lee Heintz of Blind The Carrier.

Coming into this now means that I have no excuse not to follow this band. Seriously this is one of the best debuts I have ever heard, rivaling higher funded bands. Its always a good idea to get those features in now, have those connections, it certainly drew me to the album and should make for some interesting live shows. So swing that hair and gargle those razor blades this album will break you.

Hope you enjoyed the post today, please grab those albums and support the artists. If metal isn't your thing then stay tuned, we have something you'll like coming up soon. Check out the blogs I mentioned and hit  our facebook page here.

Hardcore Humpday 10 : Shining and Void Settler

I'm starting to think the longer I go without sleep the more my musical tastes go off the deep end. Its becoming quite clear I should think, I mean did you listen to yesterdays artist? Don't think you can top that? Well read on, oh mighty viewer, read on.

Anyone from Norway? No? Yes? You know bout Shining? That's ok, I'm not sure whats popular over there. But here I guess, you have to be hardcore or crazy, or in my case just hardcore crazy, to like this music. You will have one hell of a time finding a 4/4 beat in any of todays music but with Shining there's a reason. The name of the album is actually their genre, yeah Blackjazz.

What do you want? Who even reads this far into the post? Oh, right, yup screaming and heavy guitar riffs over jazz instrumentation with a pinch of electro just for some schizophrenic flavouring. You'll like it, I promise, time for your shock therapy.

On to the next one, what you've heard this one? No, you haven't, we might as well have called todays article hardcore hipster humpday. Void Settler, I had to go back to myspace to find this one, haha yeah remember myspace? Anywho being as how I'm not even slightly sure that the picture is of him you'll just have to listen to the album.

Follow that link to a page with a link to the file, be prepared to wait half a minute if you don't want to pay cause the internet is a bitch like that. A little clear headed clarification, you might say that this album should be included in a Tuesday article, not Wednesday, well suck it. Oh and if you fear for my sanity after hearing it, well cant say I told you so. Ok voices in my head and people that don't actually read what I say, I have to scoot, to London, do enjoy the music.

Hardcore Humpday 9 : Straight Line Stitch and War Of Ages

A long time ago on a dreary winter's eve I set out with four friends to what is so far the concert of my life. We were headed out to Toronto to see Times Of Grace, I didn't even care who the starting bands were, and the annoyance of spending an hour wandering around aimlessly searching for the Mod Club quickly disappeared. Once the show started everything fell into place and it turned into one hell of a heavy night. So I thought I would share the best of the show, well besides the headlining Times Of Grace, save that for later.

The second band of the night, after The Twin, was a band that completely destroyed any expectations I had, Straight Line Stitch. Four of the burliest men to ever shred guitar and break drumsticks walked out onto the stage, followed closely by a lithe Alexis Brown. The lights cut then flared blinding the crowd, the guitars cut in and Alexis started growling into the mic burning the lyrics into my mind, all the while thrashing all over the stage. Their set was absolutely phenomenal and if I remember correctly at the end a couple broken sticks were thrown into the crowd.

Right from the get go this album is one hell of a neck breaker, there's nothing better than throwing on while cruising down the highway or in any situation that needs you at your best, cause they won't let you sleep. Although there is a Mediafire link above, I encourage you to follow suit and pay the money, I searched far and wide for it and you'd better believe its worth it.

After SLS, I must admit I was tired, exhausted is a better word, the show had been draining so far, lots of head banging and fist pumping and all that, and judging from the mosh that still hadn't stopped the rest of the crowd loved it too. The next band that walked out onto the stage was War Of Ages, a five piece metal band from Erie, PA. They may not have looked like anything different when they walked on stage but once they laid it down the crowd was spinning.

(Password = pop-to-core.blogspot.com)

Quickly winning over the crowd and mixing the pit into a frenzy WOA were the perfect band to warm up for TOG. Their newest release, Eternal, is a adrenaline fueled thrill ride of an album if you want any of their earlier albums head here.

We haven't even gotten the main event as it were and already I've had the time of my life, but Times Of Grace will have to wait for another day, hit the links above and love them as much as I do. Live long and rage hard.

Hardcore Humpday 8 : Red and 55 Escape

So first off, today has been a day without any inspiration when it comes to posting. Well until I remembered one of my oldest sources, montages. I was skipping around Youtube and stumbled across a great montage called Spirit|Inglorious. Although I'm not really into the whole online gaming scene anymore, I still recognize the ability of Youtube editors to find these amazing auditory treasures so without further ado, Red and 55 Escape.

First off let me say I rarely like Christian rock bands, for a couple reasons we won't get into here, but hearing RED without knowing their history blew my mind. A four piece rock band from Tennessee, Red blasts outside their genre label and with their new album, have created something amazing.

From what I understand this may be their heaviest album yet, which might also be why I'm so impressed by it. This is an eleven track album full with the kind of alt rock you would expect on the top of the charts. Although this isn't exactly the metal we usually feature its still an amazing album for those of us who appreciate the milder side of hardcore.

This is where the Wednesday is redeemed. 55 Escape is a five piece metal band from Trondheim, Norway. Its not everyday that you stumble onto a band with as much talent as is shown here, so read on and grab their newest album.

When it comes to metal bands, they seem to be stuck in their roots, not so with 55 Escape. The intro song starts softly with actual singing, yes you read that right, singing, not screaming. Before you get too comfortable a choir jumps in and strings pull the song into a more traditional sense of metal with heavy riffs and rage full screaming. This album is the energy of the day, and done so well so it surprised even me, strap in and hold on.

Hardcore Humpday 6 : Warped Tour Compilation

Today although I only have about ten minutes to scrape a post together, I thought it should be something well worth it. Que this years Warped Tour Compilation CD, a two disc mix of choice songs by artists lined up for this years edition of the iconic concert.

Follow that link to one of my new favourite music blogs, pop-to-core. The page contains links to both mixes and the password for the files. This for me has been the single find that turned me back onto hardcore and metal music. Over the last week and a bit since I downloaded the mix I've run discographies from the same site for, Asking Alexandria, set Your Goals, August Burns Red, Taking Back Sunday, I Set My Friends On Fire, Abandon All Ships!, Against Me!, and Attack Attack! If that doesn't show you that my faith in hardcore has been revived I don't know what will.

So sorry for the short post, but you should have time to go through everything that mix has to offer. When you find something you like, do what I do. Search on pop-to-core and run the bands most recent album, then from there work back if you are really interested.

Hardcore Humpday 5 : Asking Alexandria, Baptized in Blood and Farewell To Freeway

Tuesdays and Wednesdays always seem to be the easiest to write for, mostly because I always have more than enough dubstep kicking around, and a couple of friends of mine love sending me metal and hardcore. Today is no exception, we have two bands recommended by my old friend Ian, and a personal favorite. So strap on the neck brace and get ready to throw down.

The first band today is a five piece hardcore band from good ol' blighty, Asking Alexandria. I've known about this band for some time now, and just recently taken the time to download their newest album.

(Click to download)

Metal can get old pretty quickly if you have any sort of musical taste, thats why Asking Alexandria is such an amazing mix of sounds and genres. You won't get very far into the album before you've heard, soft strings and pleasant electro, mixed with the screaming vocals so ingrained in hardcore music. Not much later you're serenaded with soft back up vocals and meaningful lyrics, driven forth by marching quality beats and neck ruining riffs. If you can't get enough, then hit this link for all their albums, absolutely free. As with the above link the password for the .rar files is, pop-to-core.blogspot.com, spelled exactly like that.

Theres really nothing like that patriotic feeling you get when you realize the band you're listening to is not only from the same country as you but the same province. Such is the feeling I get when listening to Baptized in Blood (shown on the right with the worlds largest dump truck).

(Click to download)

Baptized in Blood are, in their own words, bringing dirty back, and somehow I think that might be a good idea. The vocals here go from screamo to a more gravely growling, more reminiscent of the heavier metal bands that we've had kicking around here on the Beat's. The entire album has that uplifting feel that only metal can convey, urging you to take everything faster and angrier. Definitely drop this into the downloads folder if you need help through the day.

Our last group today is, Farewell To Freeway, again local talent. Hailing from Guelph, Ontario, Canada, Farewell to Freeway is another healthy break from traditional metal.

(Click to download)

Its amazing how much powerful music is hiding just down the highway, makes me wish I had some time to hit all the shows I'v been hearing about. Farewell To Freeway has a nice level to their music, balance almost, the low vocals and percussion are offset with higher guitar riffs and occasional keyboard work, its an awesome package, pick it up and run.

Again muchos thanks to Ian for the bands, sorry I only used two and a giant thanks to all the people that have followed us thus far, keep it up. for any of you interested Ian's band will be playing in July with a band you may remember from a couple weeks back, All's Quiet. Prestigious indeed. Check out the Facebook event here for all the details and see you there.

Hardcore Humpday 4 : All's Quiet, and Dancing With Paris + Bonus

I think I've been procrastinating with this post way too much today as it is now running on six thirty in the evening here. I've got two artists for you today recommended by Ian, who wrote last weeks post, and a little something at the end for sticking around.

Our first group today is a five piece metal band from the back woods of Michigan, All's Quiet. Thier debut album, Like Vultures, is currently blowing my mind.

(Click to download)

Best to start this off with a warning I suppose, don't be tricked by the into track. It starts off all unsuspecting electro, with light synths and that damn beeping that makes me think I'm burning my dinner. But when that track is gone to a blissful place and taken you with it, the second track kicks you right in the teeth. Fading in with heavy riffs reminiscent of any rock band, it quickly morphs into that automatic head banging music, are you bouncing in your seat yet? All's Quiet is that special breed of metal that can combine a classic rock sound, with harsh throat tearing vocals, and guitars out the ass, with a gentle back vocal and a hint of electronica. Check out their album above and don't say I didn't warn you.

Our second group today is a four piece from Toronto, Ontario, Dancing With Paris

(Click to download)

This band introduces a completely unique sound, their facebook says, metalcore/pop, itunes says groovecore.... wait.... groovecore? Those are two words I didn't think anyone would put together without a healthy dose of cocaine, but none the less I will let them do the explaining, cause I am at a loss for words.

"Take a block of spicy metalcore with a dash of rock, stir in 3 cups of Southern spice, add a cup of hardcore (non traditional) breakdowns, dice up a fair portion of soothing pop vocals and sprinkle a little dance spice on top. Let it simmer on the stove for 17 minutes and serve it while it’s still hot. This is the recipe that has come to be Dancing With Paris."

I think that I agree with that description I unceremoniously ripped off facebook, but we can easily say that you won't be able to form your own opinion without listening to it first.

So thats it for our fourth Hardcore Humpday, tradition I say. Although it was nice having it written for me, I can't say I don't enjoy having the music handed to me and just making my own article. Its always nice to throw in some metal and rage the day away, and theres nothing like it for shifting your mind into overdrive and getting things done. So for those of you that don't appreciate the metal as much as others heres a link to a page where you can download the score from Portal Two. Its an amazing album straight from Aperture Science, so full of electronic goodness over their trademark charm. Mind the lemons.

Toxic Tuesday 6 : Shem, The Luna Sequence and Traxx Project

No intro today I thought it best to just jump right into the music and hasten the day. Our first artist today is Shem, a name unto itself. Shem completely blew my mind last week when I stumbled onto his/their work after some cruising on youtube.

(Click to download)

The first track is a remix of In Heaven by Helios, a song I never heard before this and I'm sure that I won't be able to listen to the original now. With all this crazy rapture nonsense going on its the perfect song, and again Shem is one of those crazy talented dubstep artists that somehow manages to make soft dubstep, and powerful dubstep at that. Hit the album and turn it up.
\

As far as I remember we've never had a female dubstep artist here on the daily beats, well here to break that dry spell is The Luna Sequence.

(Click for albums: They Follow You Home and Underneath)

The amazing part about the work of Kaia Young, is the range of musical possiblity. Not only dubstep, but drum and bass, metal and industrial. A plethora of amazingness too good to pass up. One thing that sparked my interest as well, is she the fact that her current project is to create an album completely with free software. Makes me want to start producing. Hit the link above for two full length albums entirely for free.

Our last artist today is Traxx Project. Kaine Shutler is a DnB producer from Cullompton, United Kingdom, and as always, how do the British make such amazing music? Not that my being British has anything to do with the whole amazing part...

Traxx Project tends to be more into Drum and Bass, which is never a problem. I love the blend of remixes and original creations that great artist like this produce. The best part is when you know some of the songs being remixed, and somehow they manage to improve on them.

Hit one of the links above depending on whether you want to pick songs before you download them. The website has all of his music either for free or sale, and all of it is extremely worth it.

Sorry about the lack of overall consciousness today, and the lack of a post yesterday. I'm starting to think the post everyday thing is a bit much. Maybe we will cut Monday and/or Thursday out of the mix to give me time to rest and finish up these course. Once I get my co-op posts may be even slower. But do not lose faith just yet, there is always more amazing music on the internet, and we will continue to show our support. Speaking of support w hit 1400 views today, which is amazing even with the recent downward slope. Spread the word and the music.

Feature Friday : End of the World Edition : Tyr

Well if you subscribe to sensationalist theories about the world ending around 2pm today then we've got a treat for you, and you need a soundtrack for the hasty preparations you have before meeting your end. First off let me say I'm completely pumped for finding out what happens later as I will be scooting up north on the highway with my dad blaring viking metal and loving life. It really makes me not want to go to class today but at least writing this the night before gives me enough time to actually do some drinking after class and before the world ends.

Way back in ancient times (1998), in the Faroe Islands, a band of vikings picked up guitars and rose their voices to Asgard in hopes of channeling the ancient god of war, Tyr. Their accomplices at Napalm records need more slaves so they let this band of musical marauders loose upon the unsuspecting world.

A couple years ago I invested in an issue of Metal Hammer that had a battle metal sampler disc as an extra, I can truthfully say that Tyr was the only band that stood out from the rest of the folk metal. Since then I have been on the look out for any of their records whenever I hit the old record store. Suddenly realizing my foolishness, I pulled a mediafire for their second newest album, By the Light of the Northern Star. My life has been made. Full to the brim with driving guitar riffs and some of the most fanciful drumming I've heard in a long time, this album takes me back to my inner norseman. What better music to end the world with??

"By the sword in my hand I will conquer the land"

I apologize for the short post today, but end of the world and all that jazz, bet they won't care about the copyright infringements and such either. So if the world isn't going to shit put on your chain mail and hoist the sails, cause we'll still be holding the heathen hammer high!

Magic Monday : Blackmill and New Playlist

Pure blissful indecision, thats all I have to bring to the table today. Its been a super long weekend driving from college to my house up north and back again, mixed in with dropping off a mixtape and getting my eyes checked. It has just been so tiring. That and the massive stress involved in finding myself not only a job but a co op position in the required field, has made this last month absolute hell.

Thats why today we'll just be having a short post, showcasing a beautiful melodic dubstep song, yes dubstep and beautiful in the same sentence. Not sure if many of you have heard of Blackmill while floating around youtube, but from an early age this producer has had a golden touch with all of his songs. Really more chillstep than anything else, these tracks have the power to transcend everything that has been pressuring you, and just make it all dissapear. This is beauty in its purest musical form.

Those of you interested in downloading the track need just use listentoyoutube.com or leave a comment here or on facebook and I will upload the track to Mediafire.

The second part of todays meager post is a mixtape that I made for a friend that has so far gotten a good review. It contains alot of tracks from previous metal posts and some that I saved just for this occasion. One track is missing and that is Self Vs. Self by Pendulum ft. In Flames but if you downloaded Immersion here a while back you should have that track already. I apologize as the list got a little mixed up along the way.
