Mellow Monday 5 : Hoodie Allen and Wax

Known for his witty rhymes and unconvential sampling bordering on mashup, Hoodie Allen, will get your week started.

Pep Rally is what drew me to Hoodie in the first place. It was about a year ago when I was still new to the internet music scene and I was mesmerized by his song You Are Not A Robot with Marina and The Diamonds. Before this most rap really lacked something for me, it was all angry, low tempo, completely uninspiring. The sheer wit and humour of Hoodies songs sparked a love of hip hop in me. His new mixtape Leap Year is more.... political... that might not be the right word. Its amazing don't doubt, the sampling is top notch and his flow dishes out the punches, but every second line names a celebrity almost like he is personally calling out half of Hollywood. So don't hate, download the tapes and continue that beautiful summer.

Many of you that love Youtube as much as I do will know about Ray William Johnson, and his show =3. Remember the original exit track, stalking your mom? Yeah that was Wax, and he's even been rappin along on some of the new Your Favourite Martian vids.

I've been floating to this album all week, no joke, I'm thinking Wax may be my new favourite rapper, and thats saying something. We talked earlier about Hoodie being witty and humorous, Wax takes that and multiplies it exponentially adding his own flavor of comedy to every song. One interesting thing, I don't usually relate to rap songs but there is something like four tracks that I can't help but feel like they were written about me. So challenge for those of you that "know" me, there will be a prize for guessing all of those songs or at least more than anyone else (hint : watch the vid), so grab this album up!
